bought it to fry in, hated it. love it now because it's awesome for hair.
this is partially solid, orange in color so be careful when using.
african american badly damaged or dry hair:
1.put on dry hair (unwashed), work through hair thoroughly (2-5 min.)
2.leave on for at least 5 additonal minutes (can cover with cap and leave on longer).
3.warm rinse (there will still be a lot of the oil in your hair when done rinsing)
4."wash" out WELL with your favorite conditioner (NO SHAMPOO) then warm rinse.
5.repeat with favorite conditioner and warm rinse again.
6.work 'sweet almond oil' through your hair and rinse well.
7.towel dry using a damp washcloth (less damaging than a dry towel).
8.work a VERY small amount of any heat protection conditioner through hair (do not rinse).
9.dry and style hair as usual but DO NOT add any oil/grease/pomade to hair
*note: a hand held hair dryer is less damaging than a blow dryer
your style will be smooth, shiny, soft and 'lay right'. gets better with each treatment.
other races for dry hair (brunette or darker - not sure if it will stain blondes)
1.follow steps 1, 2 and 3 above
2.Shampoo and rinse as usual (repeat optional)
3.condition and rinse as usual
4.dry and style hair as usual
hair will be smoother, shinier, soft

We are familiar with using red palm oil in African and other dishes. We also use it in other dishes. The Tropical Traditions product is very good. This is not palm kernel oil which is full of saturated fats.

Virgin Palm Oil is palm oil that is traditionally made and maintains the natural nutrients of carotenes (precursors to Vitamin A) and the antioxidant tocotrienols (Vitamin E). Typical RBD (Refined, Bleached, and Deodorized) palm oil has these nutrients stripped from them resulting in a clear oil. In its natural state, palm oil is red in color due to a high concentration of carotenes and tocols. Palm oil comes from a tropical palm tree (elaeis guineensis - NOT the same as coconut palm trees), which is native to the tropical areas of Africa, where it grows wild. It is a traditional oil used for more than 5000 years in African countries, where small-scale family farms flourish. The palm oil palm was introduced to South East Asia in the early 1900s, and Malaysia is now the world leader in exports of palm oil (Tropical Traditions does NOT source palm oil from there.) Being an introduced crop to Asia, they are mainly harvested from large plantations. Tropical Traditions Virgin Palm Oil comes from West Africa, NOT South East Asia. Our Virgin Palm Oil is produced by small-scale family producers in Africa that are certified organic. When you purchase Tropical Traditions Virgin Palm Oil, you are supporting small scale family producers in Africa, and NOT large corporate plantations in South East Asia.

Natural Red Palm Oil, 17.2 oz. Review

This isn't a joke, but it is useful advice.
I bought this oil because I have a parrot with a feather plucking problem. I've been adding about half a teaspoonful daily to her soft food for about 3 months and the results are terrific. She's almost back to full feather and has not plucked a single pinfeather since we began adding it.
This is a logical solution. Palm nuts are a part of most parrot's natural diet. It only makes sense that red palm oil contains nutrients that are otherwise missing in a caged bird's diet.
Your mileage may vary since feather plucking is a complex mystery, but in my case it's been a miracle cure for our cantankerous eclectus.

Natural Red Palm Oil is produced from the fruit of the oil palm, Elaeis guineensis. It is a vegetable oil and therefore does not contain any cholesterol, which is only found in animal or dairy products.Natural Red Palm Oil, made from the fruit, is sometimes confused with Palm Kernel Oil, which is made from the kernel. These are quite different in composition. Palm Kernel Oil has a fatty acid profile similar to coconut oil. Palm Kernel Oil does not contain the same amounts of carotenoids, tocopherols and tocotrienols found in Natural Red Palm Oil.Natural Red Palm Oil contains about 50% naturally saturated fats and 50% unsaturated fats. The fats in Natural Red Palm Oil are not synthetically hydrogenated or altered in any way. The unsaturated fats in Natural Red Palm are predominantly oleic acid, which is the main type of fat in olive oil.
