This is a rich and flavorful curry paste, with lots of subtle undertones. Although it is listed as "hot", it is actually fairly mild in flavor, but with an abundance of spice. This is a great curry to use when you don't have time to grind and mix your own spices.

Patek's is my favorite curry paste--no MSG and simple ingredients. For a great, easy meal on an evening when you are too tired to make a curry from scratch, saute some onions, throw in a can of tomatoes, some water, and a few tablespoons of Patek's Mild Curry Paste, and then you can take it wherever you like it--meat, tofu, veggies--as your fancy strikes you.
Now this paste may say "mild," but there is still enough spice to make your mouth tingle pleasantly--just enough. When I serve Patek's mild, I take out some chicken or whatever before serving to my four-year-old--I don't think she could handle the "mild" spice level. Mom and Dad love it, though.
The downside is that one little jar does not go a long way. If you use the paste in the concentration that it calls for (and I recommend doing so, for an authentic Indian taste), you will get two or three dinners out of it. But for flavor and ease of use and sheer delight, you cannot beat Patek's. The guests you serve it to will be amazed--and you can hide your little jar in the refrig and bask in all that glory.
Amazon's cost is high for this item, at $5, but if convenience is important to you, then that's a consideration--having a powerful culinary secret delivered to your door might make the extra buck or two worth it. If you have time and are near an Asian/Indian foods store, then expect to pay $3 if you are lucky, or around $4 in most places. Stock up, because unopened, these last forever.

First off, I was skeptical to try this product, but as a student who lived off Top Ramen before, figured it couldn't be that bad. The item was easy to make, but difficult to cook the noodles evenly. Then to the smell. The smell was God Aweful. Finally the taste test. I can honestly attest that I couldn't even stomache one bite. In fact, after the initial taste... my mouth rejected it and into the trash it went. My coworokers actually complained to the very rank smell eminating from the gabage can. I'd stay away from this one if possible.

Every time I make this for guests, it gets rave reviews. I use chicken breast tenderloins and cook that with sauteed onions. Boil up some bok choy till tender and throw that in when you add the seasoning (I use the whole packet for one pound of chicken) and coconut milk. Serve with white rice for a sure winner every time.

New to Thai cuisine, I asked to try a milder curry, my tastes running to a maximum of medium heat. Yellow curry was recommended, and the coconut milk based Thai version was a treat with both seafood and chicken-something I've had occasion to order again and again.
So when trying to re-create the taste sensations above, I was less than thrilled at the idea of grinding individual spices, purchasing a number of pricey ingredients with limited shelf life and narrow applications.
I did some research and found that many Thai housewives rely on the time and labor savings of using high quality curry pastes as the basis for soups, curries and more. Mae Ploy was one of the brands repeatly mentioned as high quality and fresh tasting.
This brand comes in a handful of flavors and heat levels, with the Yellow Curry Paste being the first I was eager to try. It has a shelf life of 2 years, and the large plastic pouch also keeps very well nestled in its own colorful tub in the refrigerator.
The flavors of lemon grass, shallot, gingery galanga, kaffir lime peel, warm spices and red chili are very well balanced. This is the only Mae Ploy Curry paste without shrimp paste, making it vegan-suitable as well as delicious with shellfish, fish or fowl.
I like to snip off one corner of the clear packet, then squeeze out just the amount I need-anywhere from 1/2 teaspoon to 2 Tablespoons, depending on the recipe. This helps to maintain freshness and flavor and avoid waste.
For Thai curry, I will combine the Yellow Curry Paste with a small amount of chicken broth, then add 3/4 Cup more broth per person, plus a can of coconut milk to mellow and round the flavor. A cup or two of chunked seafood or chicken, plus cubed potatoes and onion-simmered together for about 30 minutes- makes a very satisfying dish to serve with either traditional sticky rice or more the more occidental long grain variety.
Mae Ploy's Thai Yellow Curry is also delicious with just a bit added to your favorite dip, salad dressing, or try a teaspoonful combined with 1 cup of sour cream or plain yogurt 'painted' over your favorite fish fillets and baked just until cooked through, (about 15-20 minutes at 325).
The fine quality of this product has encouraged me to order another flavorful curry paste-also excellent-and I would highly recommend this product for those wishing to re-create favorite restaurant fare at a reasonal price, without tedious preparation.

We found out about CurrySimple's Thai Coconut Curry Combo Pack because one of Amazon's editors had written a compelling post about it on one of the Amazon blogs I subscribe to in my reader. I think the title of the post was something along the lines of "Thank you, CurrySimple!" We bit. What a find! This is a great product - we 'simply' add CurrySimple's spice mix into a bowl of chicken or tofu, rice and some vegetables and - Viola! - we've got a dish on par with the offerings of the best Thai restaurants. It only takes minutes. We've resolved to always have CurrySimple in the pantry.
The Combo Pack is the way to go. It's the best value, and all five products are winners. It's tough to choose a favorite from amongst the red, yellow, green and Masaman curries. Even the Coconut Soup is a winner...we had it once as a soup, then fashioned the second packet as a serviceable curry substitute.

Both my husband and I love Indian food and though I enjoy cooking from scratch, there are times when my busy schedule gets in the way of cooking an entire Indian meal from scratch. A friend recommended the Patak sauces and I have tried a couple of them. This Tikka Masala sauce is quite good, BUT there is some tweaking involved. Like another reviewer mentioned, there is a strong vinegary taste and too much of a tomato taste to the sauce by itself. However, a couple of tweaks by way of adding extra ingredients will improve this taste.
I added a couple of tablespoonfuls of yoghurt to the mix as it is simmering, and either a tablespoonful of ghee (clarified butter) or butter/margarine will also enhance the flavor and minimize the strong vinegary taste. Also, the spice factor is described as medium on the label, but both my husband and I found it to be quite mild (this is subjective and will vary from one taste bud to another). I added some chili powder and that added some extra kick and spiciness to the dish.
This sauce can be used with chicken or shrimp, and also veggies such as green peas, potatoes, mushrooms etc. I serve it with raita (I use yoghurt,cucumber and tomatoes) and naan/chapati/rice. It tastes yummy and makes for a quick fix Indian meal without too much fuss!

Butter chicken is one of my favorite Indian dishes. This little spice pouch greatly exceeded my expectations by making it easy to make a very flavorful rendition of it using only one pot.
1 cup of water, 3 tablespoons butter (I used Smart Balance and it came out great), a pound of chicken (the bagged frozen Tyson grilled chicken strips work great) and 20 minutes and you have a dish that closely approximates the restaurant version. I added some slices of Vidalia onion at the very end so they'd stay crunchy.

i just went into my local grocery store because they USED to carry this stuff-only to see they no longer do. Im going to let a whole bunch of Fourth of July people down because word quickly spread that I was to make my chicken Khorma and I was getting excited calls...I can no longer find the star ingredient of this simple, delicious and different dish, but Ive found it here on Amazon and I will be buying it for when I get a hankerin'. It might interest you to know that my toughest critics-two teenaged boys-really love it served over jasmine rice. And if they like it, then you know it's not too spicey or too different for your family.

This is our favorite Patak sauce. My picky 15 yr. old niece loves it. I slightly undercook 1# of cut up chicken breast in olive oil. I then add the sauce and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Served over rice it's a perfect meal.
