Maya Kaimal Fresh Indian Sauces - Tikka Masala (15 ounce) Review

I have just received the Vindaloo product. I have not used it yet but the whole transaction so far is very disappointing. The web page is very misleading in that it leads you to believe that you are getting a package of three sauces (see picture and product presentation) when in fact you get only one, and I don't remember being asked which one I want when placing the order. Further, the web site says that the Vindaloo is not available, but in fact it's the one I received. The container has a limit date at the bottom which is completely unreadable, so I don't know how long it's safe to keep it. And finally, the shipping charge is absolutely ridiculous and again badly explained, so I ended up paying almost $20 for a $6 product. Not a good deal.

Last weekend as a volunteer at Vegfest, I had the absolute pleasure of getting to sample all three sauces. For four hours I worked alongside the creator of these heavenly cooking sauces. The wonderful thing about them is that they are not only delicious but are also so simply to use. Recipes are on the sides of the jars, and they allow you the freedom to choose your favorite foods. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I was visiting the San Diego area for summer and got a chance to try all the 3 different sauces. I'm an Indian and a cook, and God, did they taste good!! These are the best Indian gourmet sauces I have ever tasted in the US, and believe me I've tried a LOT of products. I wish they start selling them in the Midwest too.

Better known as KORMA, this rich and creamy sauce is of Persian-Indian origins. The Mughal Emperors of India, who built the Taj Mahal, patronized this delectable sauce. Made with coconut, cream and exotic spices, with a hint of lime, today Korma is a must-have at all wedding dinners. We have substituted cream with evaporated milk to cut down the fat, while preserving the rich, creamy flavor.

I tried this with chicken the other night and found myself spooning it into my mouth cold before I even had a chance to cook with it- that's how great it is. Recommended with pork but it was wonderful with chicken. My family loved it- even our 7 year old dinner guest had four helpings! I had no idea what tamarind tasted like but now we are all hooked. Check out their website for other great recipe ideas. An outstanding and easy dinner option-plus it's all natural and low in sodium.

This is our favorite Patak sauce. My picky 15 yr. old niece loves it. I slightly undercook 1# of cut up chicken breast in olive oil. I then add the sauce and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Served over rice it's a perfect meal.

Cilantro & Coconut with a hint of lemon and ginger (mild simmer sauce) Review

Cilantro and Coconut with a hint of lemon and ginger (mild simmer sauce)

After I tried the cashew and cream simmer sauce from the same makers [and loved it], I couldn't wait to try another of their preparations. So I again visited the local Wholefoods [made a trip just to get this item], and picked this one rather than the other preparations, because cilantro and coconut sounded so good! Now that I'm done making it [with chicken], I must say that it wasn't as great as I expected it to be. There are probably two reasons for this... one, my expectations for this were probably very high after I tried the cashew and cream; the second, probably more importantly, the taste of mint was all-pervasive [when I went back and looked at the ingredients, mint was mentioned somewhere towards the bottom of the list]. Since I'm not a huge fan of mint in my curries, I'm giving it a 4-star rating. Others may like this better than I did. As with my previous experience, I added lots of fresh ground pepper and some crushed red pepper to this sauce. Again, this came slightly cheaper at Wholefoods where it cost $5.99.
